  1. What is involved in commissioning a custom made corset?

An initial (non obligation) consultation is needed to discuss style requirements and to take measurements. I then make up a pattern to suit your individual figure and construct a ‘toile’ (heavy calico boned replica of your corset) which we then fit. Alterations to the original design and fit can be made at this point. Once you are happy with the toile I then go on to make up the corset with your chosen fabric, boning, busk and eyelets which we then try on again close to completion to double check the fit. The finished corset is tried once more on pick up to make sure that the fit is perfect.

  2. How long does it take?

No less than three weeks, however if there was an occasion in which you needed a corset in less time than that, then provided I was not too busy it could be done in an emergency for an extra fee. The length of time to make a corset is determined by how quickly we can meet for fittings which are imperative for me to be able to move onto the next stage.

  3. What materials do you use?

The outer layer of fabric for the corset can be varied depending on what kind of a look you want to achieve, and if you want to supply your own fabric then is best to avoid stretch. The inner layer is made of heavy cotton duct, along with an inner lining. Boning ranges from flat steel, spiral steel or solid plastic, again depending on style requirements and budget. You may want a centre front opening which we can do in either a straight steel busk, spoon steel busk, or a hook and bar opening. All of my corsets are eyeleted and laced up the center back.

  4. Do you have a showroom?

No, I do not have a formal show room as each corset is made to order. The corsets on display in the web site gallery are some of my personal commissions and no two are the same. However if you do fancy a particular style on display then I could mimic the style in your own choice of fabric to suit your figure. You are also welcome to pop into my Auckland home based workroom to view whatever projects are under construction in order to get a closer look at the workmanship.

  5. How much do they cost?

Once we have had an initial consultation to discuss style, fabric and boning options then I will put together a quote. A down payment of 40% of the quote amount is required for me to start on the construction of your corset.  Prices range from $300 for a basic underbust to $650 for a much more elaborate design.

  7. Are your corsets designed to be worn as an outer or undergarment?

I can make both under and outerwear corsets, and can give advice on what each style requires at the initial consultation.
